CSk registers first win in IPL 2010 - KKR loses

Chasing 165 for victory, Kolkata Knight Riders lost half of their side inside 10 overs which sealed their fortune against CSK.

From the very outset, KKR looked to be out of sort, losing two openers early on. Hodge was picked up by Albie Morkel for duck while Gony cleaned up Tiwari for 8. After that it looked to be a contest of going back to the pavilion early.

Among the top order batsmen, only Wriddhiman Saha (22) played with some authority at the middle. Apart from him, all the top order batsmen, be it Sourav Ganguly (11), Owais Shah (5) or Angelo Mathews (6), failed to score. At one stage, they lost half of their side for only 55 runs.

From then on they never recovered and was shot out for 109, conceding a 55-run victory to Chennai Super Kings.

Earlier, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a superb knock of unbeaten 66 to help his team post a competitive total of 164/3.

Despite losing three wickets early on, Dhoni took the challenge on himself, and along with S Badrinath, helped his team reach a formidable total at the end. Like always the Indian captain started slowly, bringing his team back on track, and once he felt his team was safe, he hits the red cherry all over the park.

Dhoni hit 6 fours and 3 brutal sixes during his pragmatic knock. He slammed his fifty off just 28 balls.

Badrinath also played a brilliant knock of 43 and complimented his skipper well throughout his valiant knock.

KKR bowlers bowled well and it looked that they would restrict Dhoni’s men to less than 150. But in the last 6 overs they squandered their good work and allowed Dhoni and Badrinath to break free by giving away 83 runs.

Earlier, Electing to bat first, Chennai Super Kings’ poor batting display continued as they lost two openers-Matthew Hayden and Murli Vajay cheaply.

Vijay was playing well for his 33 but KKR medium pacer Laxmiratan Shukla produced a beauty to bowl Vijay out. Vijay’s 26-ball knock consisted of 5 hits to the fences.

Chennai innings started inauspiciously as they lost Hayden early. Ishant Sharma bowled him with a perfect ball.

Suresh Raina also did not last long as he was foxed by offie Brad Hodge for 18.

The Kolkata outfit has brought in Shane Bond and Laxmi Ratan Shukla in place of Charl Langeveldt and Cheteshwar Pujara respectively.

CSK made only one change with M S Gony replacing Sudeep Tyagi.
